wool weekend bag

By Hannah

I had such a lovely time making this bag as I sat near the window and sewed as the waves came rolling in from the distance.

I got this beautiful indigo wool at the shop years ago and have been holding onto it for just the right thing. I chose a natural duck canvas for the lining and quilted it with metallic silver thread. Oh yes I did! Black Doe leather handles and a sturdy metal zip finished this perfectly.

The pattern I followed doesn't ask for quilting but it's simple to do. I love changing the texture of fabric by quilting because it brings more structure and feels wonderful. You'll need enough batting for the lining and the main fabric. Quilt all of the pieces first and then assemble.

I added two pockets because I know how I pack.

If you choose metallic thread take my hard learned advice and buy yourself a pack of metallic needles.

Interested in making this too? Come grab a copy of Cloth by Cassandra Ellis, pick out some wool, grab a pair of handles and get quilting!
