Cloth Dollmaking with Mimi Miriam Made

  • Bolt Fabric Boutique 2904 Northeast Alberta Street Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

Sundays, December 1st and 8th
10am to 2pm

$220

Sew your very own sweet, customised cloth doll! Taught by longtime friend of Bolt, Autumn Lapour of Mimi Miriam Made, you can make a really wonderful, unique doll as a gift for someone special (or for yourself!).

The doll making class will cover a range of skills. The dolls have many small pieces and details, which is what make them so versatile. You will learn about piecing together concave and convex shapes, we will use interfacing to give your dolls structure, we will use Heat 'n' Bond to attach the hair, you will sew tight curves, we will hand embroider the face, and many other basic doll making skills.

Autumn designed and created the Mimi Miriam dolls to give her kids a custom doll they would love. The first doll she made was for her son and it had a pirate theme with skull and crossbones on the shirt. After they adopted their daughter, she added the cornrows and a black mermaid that reflected her. The pattern has evolved over the years and now the dolls are being used around the world as persona dolls to teach young children about inclusion and diversity.
